Assisted Hatching

  • Assisted hatching is a technique which was developed in response to the theory that some women may fail multiple cycles of standard IVF because their eggs have a thicker shell (zona pellucida). Assisted Hatching is also indicated for couples with advanced maternal age and poor embryo quality.

This procedure, like ICSI, is carried out by means of micromanipulation. The embryos which contain an average of six to eight cells are stabilized by a holding pipette on one side and with the help of LASER shots zona thinning is performed. The embryos are then returned to the incubator for a few hours before transfer into the uterus.
